The Hard Moon
03:53
|
|||
Light from a cold sun
Slantwise on the fallow field
Buzzard up in zenith from where fruits once ripened
And children danced in clockwise circles
Chanting, ode, and keen memento
A vestal fire vespertine
Fending off the boogeyman
Stark nighttime stars
Zodiac-less the polka dots
Over broken weathervanes, a growing shadow
All that’s left is bones and footprints
Faintest echo of enchantment
Shards of ancient pottery
The Kali Yuga
And how are we to meet our Maker?
We bit the last One, now He’s gone
We’re muzzled hounds left in the wild
Howling at the hard moon
Howling…

Wounded Sigh
03:16
|
|||
Hour of the penitence
With a fireball stuck in the chest
Every so often
Even on a slow day
Lurking in the shadows
Treetops hissing with a gust of wind
They know that violence
Reveals a pattern
And I can’t even draw a breath for the life of me
Watch me as I take to heels
Look at old Sisyphus rollin down the hill
Look at Prometheus eaten by the birds
Tendrils rising from the darkest deeps
They snuff and suffocate
Begone thee, Devil!
Hither, mercy and saving grace!
Too late, I’ve been swallowed whole
Wanting to pray but can’t recall the words
Should I curl up?
Should I try to fight?

Homemaker
04:57
|
|||
A smiling secret
Right where you left it last
Yours truly stayed
Stuck around like vines on stone
Call it stubbornness or fantasy
I learnt to be a handyman
So entropy wouldn’t eat away at your house
I built a white picket fence
Left your ancestors their offerings
Fought the pests off the flower patch
Kept the insects off of your favourite dress
Ooh, it’s what I do
I tend the hearth
A homemaker
Ooh, it’s all I do
I keep the fire
A homemaker
Should the day come
Lil birds will sing the news:
You were spotted making your way home from the wars
Weary, feverish, mute, purple-bruised
I’ll run a bath and wash your back
Stitch the open wounds no questions asked
Rinse the hurt, dry your hair
Feed you cold green grapes straight off the branch
Ooh, it’s what I do
I tend the hearth
A homemaker
Ooh, it’s all I’m good for
Can’t help myself
A homemaker
Through and through
